Medical education

We are a training practice and you may be offered an appointment with a GP registrar. These doctors are fully qualified and will have had experience in several hospital specialties. They are completing their specialist training as a GP.

We also teach medical students and sometimes you may be asked to see the doctor or nurse with a student present. You will always be asked beforehand if this is acceptable and you may ask for the student to leave if you prefer to have your consultation in private.

Video consent

This is a GP Training practice attached to the NHS Education for Scotland Speciality GP Training Programme.

We are committed to supporting the training of new GPs and also to maintaining and developing the skills of our existing GPs and other staff. As part of this commitment clinicians working in this practice may request to make recordings of the consultations with patients to help them improve their consultation and communication skills.

The recording will only be used for teaching and training purposes, usually within the practice between trainer and trainee.

Sometimes teaching sessions may be held out with the practice in a group setting where the recording may be viewed by other trainees and trainers. You will be advised that your appointment is part of a video surgery.

Your consent will always be requested by the receptionist before your appointment is recorded. You will be asked to sign the consent form again at the end of your appointment to make sure you are still happy to consent to the recording being used.

You can withdraw your consent at any time following this; either verbally or in writing and the recording will be deleted. The recording will focus on the communication between the clinician and patient and will not record examinations where your clothing needs to be removed or your body exposed.

The recording will be deleted as soon as it has been reviewed and will not be kept for any more than three months.

If you would prefer that your consultation is not recorded please tell the receptionist. This is entirely your choice and a refusal to have an appointment recorded will not affect your health care in any way.

Please also refer to our practice privacy notice which tells you how we manage your personal information when you make contact with us or use on of our services.
